These correlated findings between the radiation shielding performance, chemical, physical, structural, and mechanical properties may open a door for engineers to design glasses using rare-earth oxides as additive components for special needs. These findings pointed that W-reinforced borotellurite glass composition, namely 5WO 3-5Al 2O 3-20B 2O 3-70TeO 2 40Bi 2O 3 with density of 4.77 g/cm 3 had superior gamma-ray attenuation performance. W 6+, Nb 5+ and Pb 2+ increased the borotellurite mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) values and enhanced the radiation protection efficiency of the glass, however Al 3+ decreased it. The results revealed that these rare-earth ions have different effects on the mechanical and shielding properties of borotellurite glasses against ionizing radiation. Accordingly, nine different borotellurite glasses from the system: 5M xO y − zAl 2 O 3 − 20B 2O 3 − (75 − z)TeO 2 (where M xO y = WO 3, Nb 2O 5, and PbO) and three glasses of the chemical form zAl 2 O 3 − 20B 2O 3 − (80 − z)TeO 2 where ( x, y, z) = 0, 5, and 10 mol% compositions were comprehensively examined for of their nuclear attenuation shielding performance, along with physical, thermodynamic and mechanical properties. Send us feedback about these examples. This work intended to determine the contribution of different rare-earth elements (W 6+, Nb 5+, and Pb 2+) with respect to Al 3+ effects and on physical, structural, mechanical and shielding performance of different types of borotellurite glasses. These examples are programmatically compiled from various online sources to illustrate current usage of the word 'barium.' Stanley Merzman, Discover Magazine, 21 Aug. ![]() Michael Phillis and Jim Salter, Chicago Tribune, 12 July 2023 To make the first one, lanthanum, start with a barium atom and add one proton and one electron. Michael Phillis and Jim Salter, The Christian Science Monitor, 13 July 2023 Take a March 17, 1953, memo from Merril Eisenbud, health and safety division director for the Atomic Energy Commission, concerning a barium cake spill that left a half-mile of road, its shoulder and part of a corn field with nuclear contamination. 2023 The documents examined by AP included a 1953 memo from a top official at the Atomic Energy Commission, concerning a barium cake spill that left a half-mile of road, its shoulder, and part of a cornfield with nuclear contamination.
